Shildon calls itself the birthplace of the railways, and it looks the part: rows of solid stone and brick terraces built for the men who worked the wagon works, laid out on the streets around the old railway line and the Locomotion museum. It sits between Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe, and that railway-era housing stock is the starting point for almost every heat pump conversation we have here.
Heat Pump Installation in Shildon
Solid-wall terraces need a different approach to a 1990s semi on the edge of Newton Aycliffe, and we treat them that way rather than reaching for a standard specification. Radiators are often undersized for a heat pump's lower flow temperature, so we check and, where needed, upgrade them as part of the installation rather than leaving homeowners with a system that never quite gets the house warm.
The Locomotion museum and the old wagon works sit right in among the housing, and a good proportion of the terraces nearby date from the same era, meaning wall thicknesses and original window arrangements vary more than you'd expect on paper. That's exactly why we survey each property rather than quoting from a photo or a postcode.
