Daikin Heat Pump Servicing from a Daikin Approved Installer

A Daikin heat pump should be serviced once a year by a qualified engineer. That keeps it running efficiently and gives you the service record most manufacturers need to keep the warranty valid. We are a Daikin Approved Installer, and we service Daikin Altherma air source and hybrid heat pumps across the North East and Yorkshire, whoever installed them.

You can read more on our heat pump servicing page, or have the yearly service included in one of our heat pump servicing plans. Below we explain what a Daikin service covers, what it means for your warranty and the faults we see most often.

The Daikin systems we service

Daikin is the brand we fit most, so our engineers know its systems well. We service:

  • Daikin Altherma air source heat pumps, which heat your radiators or underfloor heating and, in most homes, a hot water cylinder
  • Daikin Altherma hybrid systems, which pair a heat pump with a boiler and switch between them

The Altherma range has changed over the years, and different models have different indoor units, controls and cylinders. The service steps are much the same across them, and the engineer adapts to the model you have.

Why use a Daikin Approved Installer

Any qualified heat pump engineer can service a Daikin system. Choosing a Daikin Approved Installer means the engineer is trained on the brand and familiar with its controls, settings and common faults.

That matters most in two places:

  • The controls. Daikin controllers have a lot of settings. Knowing where to find the flow temperature, weather compensation and schedule settings means the controls review is quick and thorough.
  • Fault finding. Knowing how Daikin systems behave helps an engineer read the symptoms and find a fault faster.

Our engineers are also REFCOM registered for F-Gas, so they can work on the refrigerant circuit, and Gas Safe registered, so one engineer covers the boiler on an Altherma hybrid. We are MCS certified and have more than 30 years' experience in refrigeration, air conditioning and heating.

What a Daikin heat pump service covers

A service checks the whole system, not just the outdoor unit.

Outdoor unit

  • Clean and inspect the evaporator coil and fan
  • Clear debris around the unit and check the airflow
  • Check the condensate drain and the defrost operation
  • Check the refrigerant circuit for signs of leaks
  • Check the electrical connections

Water side and indoor unit

  • Check the system pressure and the expansion vessel
  • Clean the filters and strainers
  • Check the pumps and valves
  • Test the system water, glycol or inhibitor

Controls

  • Review the settings, heating schedules and hot water timings
  • Check the flow temperatures suit your home
  • Look at any fault history the controller has stored

Cylinder and boiler

  • Check the hot water cylinder and its safety valves, where your service covers it
  • Service the boiler on an Altherma hybrid system

After the visit you get a PDF service report with our advice and recommendations. For the full checklist and how long a visit takes, read what a heat pump service includes.

Servicing and your Daikin warranty

Most heat pump manufacturers need a yearly service by a qualified engineer to keep the warranty valid. The terms vary by manufacturer, by model and by when and how the system was registered, so we can't tell you the exact terms for your system here.

Check your warranty paperwork. It will say how long the warranty lasts, how often the system needs servicing and what records you need to keep. If you can't find it, your installer should be able to tell you.

Whatever the terms, keep every service report. Our PDF report gives you a dated record of each service, ready if you ever need to make a claim.

Common Daikin heat pump faults

Most faults on a Daikin system show up in one of a few ways. Some come with an error code on the controller, others just show up as a change in how the system behaves.

  • Error codes on the controller. The code tells the engineer which part of the system has a problem. Note down the code and when it appeared before you call.
  • Low water pressure or flow. Leaks, air in the system or blocked filters and strainers can all trigger a fault and stop the heat pump running.
  • Icing on the outdoor unit. Some frost in cold weather is normal, and the unit clears it with a defrost cycle. If the ice keeps building up, something needs looking at.
  • Communication faults. The outdoor unit, indoor unit and controller need to talk to each other. A loose connection or failed component can stop that.
  • Sensor faults. Faulty temperature or pressure sensors can make the system behave oddly or shut down.
  • Noisy fan or compressor. Rattles, grinding or louder running than usual are worth having checked early.
  • Running costs creeping up. Often a sign the settings have drifted or the system isn't working as efficiently as it should.

A yearly service catches many of these before they stop your heating. If your system has already stopped, we repair heat pumps whoever installed them. See heat pump repair for more.

Servicing plans for Daikin heat pumps

Our servicing plans work for Daikin systems in the same way as any other air source heat pump. Each is a 12-month rolling contract for homeowners:

  • Heat Pump & Cylinder Plan: the annual heat pump and cylinder service, a free inhibitor top-up, prioritised attendance and advice for breakdowns, and 10% off parts and labour
  • Hybrid System Plan: the same, with the boiler serviced too, for Altherma hybrid systems
  • Premium Protect Plan: for heat pump and cylinder systems under 10 years old, adding up to 3 emergency breakdown visits a year and parts and labour cover on qualifying components up to £1,800 in each 12-month period

Our plans are for homes, not commercial properties. To see what a plan costs and what each one covers, read how much a heat pump service costs.

Where we work

Our engineers work from ATE House in Carlin How, near Saltburn-by-the-Sea, and an office in Whitby. We service Daikin heat pumps across Tyne and Wear, Northumberland, County Durham, North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire.
